LOMAH - Land of Milk and Honey

Just living life here in the Promised Land, Southern Alberta. Where the Mountains meet the prairie in a stunning sunset, surrounded in fields of gold

Kayking - S Bend

An old picture, surfing the S Bend on the Red Deer River with Denali keeping a watchful eye. It was a perfect day, surrounded by perfect friends.

Family in Waterton

A summer hike with the family and Grandparents. It was a typical Waterton day with some wind and sun. Logan hiked the whole way in to Bertha Falls

Loves of my Life

The first two loves of my life together in one picture. I remember when they came into my life, making me whole.

Me in the Broken Group

I think this is my favourite picture from last year. We did a sea kayaking trip to the Broken Group and had 4 glorious days of sun. It was a capped off with the company of great friends.

Boys Weekend

As luck would have it I was able to get away with the boys for opening weekend at Whitefish.  While the forecast wasn't great the week prior, things really shaped up by the time we arrived.  In the end, 5 of us showed up, including CG, who turned the big 40 and Merc., who came all the way from Vic.

After the usual gong show upon arriving and getting to the hill, we manged to get some good skiing in day one.  Chris gets full props for doing it old school.  Check out those gaiters!

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I had no legs left by the end of the day.  With the front side being closed, we spent the day on the backside, except for a few runs that they opened, allowing you to ski down the front and avoid taking the chairlift down.

After a full day of skiing we headed back to the Hironaka cabin for some pizza and TV.  We played a bit of poker, using chocolates for chips.  Chris was out pretty quick, but I think he ate himself out of the game.  Only Merc and I stayed for a second day.

Day two was a bit harder on the legs so we decided to snowboard instead of tele for the day.  I'm pretty glad as I don't think I could have skied for very long.  As luck would have it, around 2pm they opened the full mountain just as I got to the top of the mountain.  I made the mad dash and managed to snake some sweet first tracks down the front side.  I was screaming in excitement and choking on powder as I worked my way down the big face.
Nice way to start the season.

Christmas Tree

With a higher roof this year, we ended up with a rather large tree.  Even after we trimmed it down it was still pretty big.

The kids had a pretty fun time decorating the tree and we had enough decorations as well.  I did have to make the tree a little asymmetrical to fit it in the corner.

old movies

I came across an article today about obscure scifi movies and it got me thinking.  I thought I would post some trailers from some old movies that the article reminded me of.

times have sure changed as far as movies go.

On the Hunt for Snow

This last weekend we headed to Waterton to see how much snow they had.  Greeted with rain on the drive out, we didn't have much hope.  The townsite was pretty bare, but our hopes improved as we headed up to Cameron Lake.  Bad news for those ice climbers out there, things looked pretty thin.

When we got to barrier, we did find enough snow to play and there were several cars parked and evidence of skiers out. The Park was out with their trailer and maintenance equipment.  We ran into a couple of guys who were out with AT gear.

We didn't bring any gear with us so we just let our creative side take over.  Was nice to play in the snow, I think next time we'll bring the toys.

10,000 Lights

We spent last night looking at lights, from two rather different places.  First we stopped by a house that had a light show synced to music.  I'm not sure what was more interesting, the house or the kids dancing to the music.  My brother had planned the evening and we joined him so it turned into a pretty fun event.

After some dancing and hot chocolate, we headed to the observatory for an open house.  The younger of the kids got bored after a bit, but the older ones were pretty engaged.  Other than some clouds, it was a pretty good night for star gazing.

Sunsets & Sunrises

We have been pretty lucky this fall and have been treated to a few fine sunsets.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Lethbridge Fires

As some of you might have heard in the news, we had a pretty big grass fire in the Lethbridge area in September.  So big in fact that my In-laws had to evacuate from Coalhurst.  I was taking pictures from one side of the fire,

While the grandparents were taking pictures from the other side of the fire.

Luckily Coalhurst was spared any damage and as far as I heard, damage was kept to a minimal.  Crazy thing is this happened last year as well.  Hoping there isn't going to be a third time next year.

Best Americano

I hate to say it, but for 25 bucks, this thing makes a better Americano than my $800 espresso machine.  I origninally got this thing for camping, but I enjoy using it so much that I've kept it in the kitchen.

I honestly have to reccommend this to all my friends who enjoy a good cup of joe while camping.  It's the bomb.

Pumpkins

So in rather short notice, I carved 4 pumpkins for the house.  Personally I liked the one that looked like Jack the most.

I know that out there in Internet land, one of you has turned a pumpkin into an apple, your talents and innovation are legen.... wait for it....dary!
