LOMAH - Land of Milk and Honey

Just living life here in the Promised Land, Southern Alberta. Where the Mountains meet the prairie in a stunning sunset, surrounded in fields of gold

Kayking - S Bend

An old picture, surfing the S Bend on the Red Deer River with Denali keeping a watchful eye. It was a perfect day, surrounded by perfect friends.

Family in Waterton

A summer hike with the family and Grandparents. It was a typical Waterton day with some wind and sun. Logan hiked the whole way in to Bertha Falls

Loves of my Life

The first two loves of my life together in one picture. I remember when they came into my life, making me whole.

Me in the Broken Group

I think this is my favourite picture from last year. We did a sea kayaking trip to the Broken Group and had 4 glorious days of sun. It was a capped off with the company of great friends.

Live Long and Prosper

Well for those of you who own a tricorder or simply remember the man they call Spock, this last weekend brought an exciting day in our geeky life's.  We made the short 1 hour drive north to be part of Leonard Nimoy's homecoming in Vulcan, Alberta.  I've always known that Southern Alberta was the motherland, and now Spock has confirmed it!  I mean really.... how can you argue with a Vulcan?  They're always right!  While the whole event was short lived, last about an hours it was a fun afternoon out that reaped a few unexpected rewards.  A few pictures of the man himself, an opportunity to hear him speak, and a flat of Romulan Ale!

I've included a few pictures from our trip below as well as a video clip.  When it was all said and done, I can't decide what was the best part.  The actual experience or the look of excitement on Dora's face.  I can't believe how excited she was.  Now that I think about it... her excitement might have been due to the fact that she was out of the house and neither boy was crabby.

The Long Haul

While this picture may not look like much, it represents the last bit of basements reno's. It's the small things that seem to take forever and for the longest time I had trim in the bathroom and the door on the electrical panel left to finish. A few weeks ago I finished the trim and over Easter I got the doors up.

I do my own stunts

A few weeks ago, Logan decided to take us to the emergency room. Yup, our first trip with the boy. Actually, I should be happy considering he's three and a half. I think my poor mom had all three of us boys in emergency before we were one! Logan did a swan dive onto the pointy part of Nana's rocking chair and ended up with a swollen eye and a bent nose. Luckily the nose was just pushed over due to swelling and there was nothing broken. Here are a few pictures of the carnage.

Poster Girl

Dora was a trooper.  Headed out to brave the snow day.  And she looked good to boot.  Check it out!

Snow Day

Oh those glorious words.  They hold a special place in my heart.  Perhaps because I'm a teacher, perhaps because I hear them less often (no global warming eh?).  Regardless of the reason behind the magic, I was blessed with those words this morning.  One crazy night of snow changed the dry spring landscape of LOMAH back into a winter wonderland.  Schools were closed, streets were chaotic and my bed was warm and inviting!  Happy day.

Eventually, the boys decided to end our dreamy slumber and we awoke with a bonus day before us.  What to do?  SNOWMAN!

In all seriousness, it was quite a dump and wet heavy snow too!  My arm is still sore from shoveling the driveway.  In fact the highway 4 South to the border was closed in the morning as road crews were having problems moving the snow with graters.

Here are a few more pics from our day.

Men will be Men

This is a quick post for all my man friends out there.  You might remember a classic film... a true gem, Army of Darkness.  For those of you that do remember, check this out!

Iron Chef Dora

Dora has been cooking up a storm as of late, taking advantage of all her free time as a stay at home mom right now (she knows I'm joking I hope)! A favorite veggie of ours, including Logan, is asparagus. I'm not sure of the recipe and kinda hope Dora will update this posting with it, but regardless, here are a few pics. If I remember correctly, it was fast, easy and quite yummy!
(*I stole the recipe from vegan yum yum site. It's called chili almond asparagus. So easy and so good. The only ingredient that I didn't have at home was peanut oil, but we had some peanut satay sauce so I substituted. Give it a try! - Dora)

Head East

Well, while dad was out west for his "man-date" with Merc, the boys and I headed out east with Nana & Papa for some time with my grandma. The 5 hour drive (includes break for lunch) went so well. We hit Evan's nap perfectly. For those of you that travel with little ones, you will appreciate how awesome that is. The drive back was a little rougher. But Papa did get the chance to show Logan how to pee on an old barn. Darn cool.

It was pretty low key. Lots of visiting and hanging out. Me and the boys were able to stay in the guest suite while my folks stayed with grandma in her little condo. Nice that we had our own spot to retreat to at night. My cousin Rose had also made the trek and brought her boys. We ate out every night at the local venues, played at the park and had an Easter egg hunt. All in all a nice break from the routine. I was pretty tired by the end (how do single parents travel?). It's nice to be home and back in routine again...and have Marco home too.

Easter Break Pt. 1

As a teacher, I have the luxury of a week off over Easter.  This year was no exception and my head was filled with plans upon plans.  Oddly, things did not turn out as expected.

As you can tell from my earlier postings, I started my week in Victoria with the plans of a "boys weekend" and was welcomed to the city by a new baby girl.  It was quite the experience to see a man become a dad and this was the first time I witnessed it someone else for the first time.  I don't think I've ever seen Mike so overwhelmed with emotions.  Congrats again bud!
To top it week off, I had a great time being catered to by Jody and his family, watching a practiced family deal with the chaos called life.  That family takes everything in stride and make the rest of us look like amateurs.  Love you guys and see you this summer!  To enhance my Victoria experience, the other Mike took me out kayaking for a morning to truly appreciate the benefits of the Island life.  It was a bit unnerving when the wind picked up and I think I almost got sea sick.  Luckly, no breakfast was lost.  The last day included a rugby game with a visiting Scottish team and Jeff's school.  Having never watched a live rugby game, it was truly interesting to see everyone in action.  I still find it hard to believe that they use no pads or cup for that matter!
After watching for a bit, Mike picked me up for some quick shopping and then I met up with my Brother's family who were on holiday in Victoria.  Funny how I need to travel to another city to spend time with my family!

Well that was the first half of my week, part 2 to follow.

found one...

Imogen Eleanore Mercier

As I was flying out to Victoria Saturday morning, the Mercier's were enjoying..... well perhaps that wording is poor.  were appreciating the joys of parenthood.  Around a baby girls joined the LOMAH family, coming in at 6lbs, 15oz.  I truly have never seen Mike as happy as he was when he introduced his daughter to us.  I'm lacking the cables right now to post a picture, but as soon as i track one down, I'll do so.

Feel free to give Mike, Courtenay and Imogen your love.
